Remington 740 Woodsmaster Problems - What i found was that it suffers from gross design flaws all the way through the rifle. The gas system is too aggressive, the receiver design seems to be custom made to be a. Check to make sure that it isn't broken or frozen. Those are known for the receivers going bad due to them being soft and the lugs on the bolts chewing them up. Then they jam up and quit working. One solution is to send them in. The issue is usually failure to cycle properly which is normally either fte or ftf. The 740 came first and most had issues with accuracy because o f the forearm attachment method. The 742 changed that, but they were for the most part inaccurate. Congrats on a cool old rifle. Mine is marked woodsmaster 740 and was made in march of 1955.
